For an open wood-burning fireplace used regularly, once a year is the standard recommendation. Gas appliances should still get an annual inspection even though they sweep less often. We'll tell you honestly if you don't need a sweep yet.

Do I really need a Level-2 inspection?

You do before buying or selling a home, after any operational change (like a new insert), and after a chimney fire or weather event. It's the only inspection that includes a full internal camera scan of the flue.

Is the sweeping process messy?
